Number of medicines subject to categorisation in Slovakia to increase to 5,515 from January

The number of drugs subject to categorisation of drug reimbursement shall increase to 5,515 products as of January this year, compared with 5,463 products in October 2011. Out of this amount, 1,835 or 33% of reimbursed medicines will not require financial contribution from patients.
The January list includes a number of medicines with new active substances such as exenatide (for diabetes type 2), vernakalant (for atrial fibrillation),molecule bilastine (for the symptomatic treatment of patients diagnosed with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and urticaria) and fingolimod (for multiple sclerosis). New substances have been also added to the group of drugs used in the treatment of schizophrenia and elevated intraocular pressure while the group of hypertension drugs has been widened by a number of new drug combinations, including the combination of aliskiren and amlodipine in four different strengths.
