Diagnostyka, a leading Polish operator of medical testing laboratories, has become one of the first companies in Poland to introduce liquid-based cytology (LBC) services in the diagnosis of cervical cancer.
Michal Meller, a senior executive at Diagnostyka, told Pharma Poland News that the LBC method – widely used in Western Europe – was more effective in early detection of precancerous cervical conditions and cervical cancer itself than traditional cytology tests. For instance, research has shown that the use of LBC tests increases the likelihood of detecting high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) by as much as 64.4%.
This is particularly important in Poland, which has one of the worst rates of cervical cancer mortality in Europe, a situation attributed in substantial part to insufficient awareness of the importance of prevention and screening tests.
