Two hospitals obtain court payment orders against NFZ

District courts in Rzeszow and Kielce have ruled in favour of two hospitals in their financial dispute with local branches of the National Health Fund (NFZ) over payments for services provided in the second half of 2008. The rulings, which are still subject to appeal, could embolden other hospitals to seek court payment orders against the Fund for services provided in 2009 as well.
The two hospitals – the District Hospital in Stalowa Wola and the Voivodship Combined Hospital in Kielce - had sued the NFZ for refusing to pay for above-plan services. They claimed that all were live-saving procedures that they could not deny to patients.
The Stalowa Wola Hospital will receive nearly PLN 4.3m (€1.1m) and the Kielce hospital PLN 3.7m (€0.93m).
