89% of Romanian market volume in 2009 accounted for by cheapest pharmaceuticals

In 2009, pharmaceuticals with retail prices lower than RON 25 (€5.9) accounted for 89.1% of the market in terms of volume and 42.1% in terms of value in Romania, according to Cegedim. By contrast, drugs costing more than RON 300 (€72.7) accounted for only 0.4% in terms of volume but as much as 23.3% in terms of value.
At the same time, the lowest pharmacy sales margins, 6.6%, were those of drugs which cost more than RON 300, whereas the highest margins, 59.3%, pertained to drugs which cost less than RON 25.
