Value of NFZ therapeutic programmes up by 26% in 2009

The total value of therapeutic programmes financed by the National Health Fund (NFZ) in 2009 amounted to just over PLN 1.09bn (€264m), which represented an increase of 25.9% compared with the year before, according to the NFZ’s annual report. The figure was almost 8% lower than envisaged in the Fund’s financial plan for the year (over PLN 1.18bn or €286m).
Most voivodships saw double-digit increases in the value of programmes, but growth rates varied from 0.26% in Warminsko-Mazurskie voivodship to 53.79% in Mazowieckie.
The three programmes generating the highest cost for the NFZ were trastuzumabum (Herceptin,
Roche), imatinib (Glivec,
Novartis) and peginterferonum alfa-A2 (Pegasys, Roche).
